Brix is asking the public to come in and sign the ‘Declaration of Beer Independence’ May 11th – 17th.
Pasadena, CA (April 20, 2009) – Brix 42 restaurant and bar is gearing up for the annual celebration of American Craft Beer Week May 11 – 17th, a national celebration highlighting the culture and contributions of beer. To kickoff this event, Brix will be serving its all-new, home brewed IPA as well as a long list of other beers including four brews from their in-house brewery.
In celebration of this event Brix is giving away free food Monday, May 11th, from 4:00 – 10:00 p.m. In addition, there will be brewery tours, the release of a special IPA, all-night happy hour specials on Tuesday, $3 house draft beer all week, and nightly entertainment.
Brix houses a combination Bavarian brewery10 BBLS (barrels) system with3 fermenter tanks and 5 serving tanks.
“A barrel of beer is 31 gallons and the standard size for a keg is a half-barrel,” brewer Robert Dos Santos said. “Most brewpubs brew in seven or 10-barrel batches. Each serving tank in our brewery is 370 gallons.”
Brix 42 is currently brewing ales and lagers and uses the freshest all natural ingredients with no preservatives. Fine German malts are combined with American Hops, brewed in a steam kettle for better flavor then direct flame. Beers stay in tanks for a maximum time of 2 - 3 months for optimum freshness.
Brix brews five distinctive beers and are unique in their own right.
The all-new and exclusive IPA is an aggressive Indian Pale Ale that featuresunique citrus andherbal flavors. Its distinctivearoma highlights the earthy spiciness from hand selected American hops. A full-bodied and hoppy beer which incorporates three British malts to define the most exceptional profile.
The Blonde is a refreshing medium bodied beer and deep gold in color with an intensity of malt and hop flavors. The spicy floral hop aroma blends smoothly with the malty sweetness giving it a clean well-balanced crisp finish.
The American style Hefeweizen is pale gold in color and served unfiltered, this beer is fermented with authentic hefeweizen yeast. Brewed with malted wheat and barley for a unique bread-like character and 50 pounds of honey for a sweet delicate finish.
The Amber is a gently toasted ale with a touch of sweetness. This copper colored American Amber has a full malty flavor that is smooth and easy to drink. Top fermented by American Ale Yeasts to produce a fine and clean flavor.
The Red-An Irish style ale is brewed with a blend of imported English dark specialty caramel malts. A bit of domestic hops keeps the bitterness low to accentuate the clean flavor. The fruity aroma and complexity of flavors make for a truly superb beer.
The Munich Dunkel is the classic darker style of Munich, it's slightly sweet and malty profile has a presence of dark roasted malts. Five different malts are combined to create this rich dark copper color and a medium bodied beer finished with English Hops.
The brewer, Roberto Dos Santos has over 15 years of experience working at Brewing Manufacturers, Micro-Breweries and Brew-Pubs. Soon Brix 42 will be unveiling a new beer, an American version of an IPA, which is a cascade of heavy hops and is a very aromatic beer with a bite!
American Craft Beer Week supports breweries that produce fewer than 2 million barrels of beer a year and are independently owned. Small and independent craft brewers provide nearly 100,000 jobs and in 2008 the total taxable barrels of beer produced by craft brewers was 8,596,971. Additionally, many craft brewers go to incredible lengths and great costs to lessen their impact on their surrounding environment and community. Representing 4.0 percent by volume and 6.3 percent in dollars of the overall beer market, consumer interest in the craft sector continues to grow, but not without challenges. According to the Brewers Association, the cost of operating a small brewery has increased over 39% November 2007 to November 2008.
Brix 42 is open seven days a week. Hours are nightly: Restaurant: 5:00 – 10:00 pm, happy hour: 4:00 – 7:00 pm, pub/lounge: 4:00 – midnight Sunday – Thursdays and until 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Brix 42 brings brewing back to Pasadena With Crown City Brewery and Gordon Biersch closed and Craftsman only brewing for other bars, the brewpub era in Pasadena seemed to have come to an end. But now Brix 42 has taken over the tanks left by the long-gone Pasadena Brewing Company and several other concepts, and brewmaster Roberto De Santos is brewing up unfiltered beers including Honey Hefeweizen, Golden Ale, Red beer, and Munich Dunkel. Thursday, the Amber Ale debuts, with an IPA coming soon. Tuesdays are happy hour prices all night long, while Thursdays have drink specials and $2 beers. While there's a full menu including mussels and pizzas, Brix is more sports bar than gastropub, but with plenty of booths, it's much more comfortable than Lucky Baldwin's. Brewpubs are few and far between in L.A., so I thought it might be worth a mention. And if you're jonesing to hear some Bachman Turner Overdrive, Led Zeppelin and more hits of the '70s, this is your place. |
